An Eternal Law

The more I read God’s Word and meditate on what He’s trying to tell me, the more I’m faced with the condition of my heart.

Today’s devo by Oswald Chambers was about judging others and how Jesus said that “with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. It’s the law of sowing and reaping as applied to judgment.

The devo led me to read Rom 2:1-11. Ouch! Here’s how The Good News Bible puts it:

“Do you, my friend, pass judgment on others? You have no excuse at all, whoever you are. For when you judge others and then do the same things which they do, you condemn yourself. We know that God is right when He judges the people who do such things as these. But you, my friend, do those very things for which you pass judgment on others!” (vv. 1b-3)

The subsequent verses go on to say that God is kind and patient and waiting for me to repent and I shouldn’t squander the opportunity. If I do, the eternal law of retribution goes into effect. Maybe it’s not damnation into Hell, but a payback of a different sort.

Sounds like a wake-up call to me.
